ORIGAMI HOUSEPLANT
This origami houseplant can be very useful for people who always forget to water their
houseplants. This one looks very realistic from a distance.
Step 1:
You'll need these papers to make one large leaf:
2 of 19x19cm (or 7,5x7,5 inch)
2 of 16x16cm (or 6,5x6,5 inch)
2 of 14x14cm (or 5,5x5,5 inch)
2 of 12x12cm (or 4,5x4,5 inch)
1 of 11x11cm (or 4x4 inch)
And two long rectangular papers for the stem
Step 2:
Take one of the square papers.
Only one side is coloured of these papers.
Make a valley-fold over this line.
Step 3:
Make a valley-fold over this line.
Step 4:
Make a valley-fold over these 2 lines.
Step 5:
And make a valley-fold over these 2 lines.
Step 6:
The backside of the model looks like this.
Turn the model.
Step 7:
Use all 9 square papers of step 1
to make a piece like this.
Step 8:
Make 2 strong stems of about 30cm or 12inch each
Click here to see instructions for making a stem
Use more metal wires for one stem if your stem
is not strong enough.
Step 9:
Take one stem and 2 of the largest leaf-pieces.
Glue the 2 leaf-pieces to the bottom of the stem.
The upper arrow shows which part of the leaf-pieces
is glued to the stem: Just a bit above the end, otherwise
the pieces will bend downwards to easy.
Step 10:
Take the 2 second largest leaf-pieces and glue them
to the stem too.
Step 11:
Take the next 2 leaf-pieces which are a little smaller
again and glue them to the stem.
Step 12:
And the next 2 pieces are glued to the stem too.
Step 13:
The smallest leaf-piece is for the top of the leaf.
Step 14:
Bend the stem a little bit backwards and crumple
the leaf-pieces a little to make them look less static.
Step 15:
Glue the second stem to the bottom of the leaf.
Use about 5 centimeters or 2 inch of each stem to
glue them together.
Step 16:
This is one finished leaf.
Make 3 of these leaves and make 2 leaves of 7 pieces
instead of 9 (This is for variation).
I used one large pot and it's completely filled with foam.
All 5 stems of the leaves are inserted in the foam.
Finally, I covered the foam with origami sand.
